Dance improve good health dramatically by improving muscle tone and cardiovascular strength, improving the condition of your heart and lungs, decreasing blood pressure, reducing stress, and many other benefits. Dancing helps you strengthen bones and lubricate joints.

Dancing is good for your brain.

Dancing requires you to listen and interpret rhythmical patterns, watch and process choreography (if doing a class), actually move, remember what you did, coordinate a million body parts and maybe more…guide a partner! Proven to enhance your concentration and memory while improving your body awareness, dancing certainly has a positive effect on your brain.

Dancing soothes your soul.

Modern work and life pressures can make you tired, stressed, worried and sometimes fearful. Moving your body to your favourite music can be a way to reset the button. Dancing is not only fun but a social activity. Uplifting music like Salsa or Samba can be a way to change your vibration and help you forget your troubles. Just immerse yourself in music and dance!

Flexibility is an important part of dancing. Even if you aren’t a break dancer, doing less physically demanding dancing still requires you to have a certain level of flexibility in your shoulders, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles. Imagine partner dancing in Salsa…you certainly need some shoulder flexibility in those turns! Must be good to prevent creaky joints, right?

Let’s face it, dancing (in front of others, or event in front of yourself) can be challenging. Confronting your fears of “looking silly” or being the average person with “two left feet” is the biggest nightmare of most. Learning to break out of these negative perceptions is what happens over time in dance. If you truly engage, be present in your dance practice…you really do build that self-confidence!

At a dance class you meet people from all walks a life, no matter their field of work, socio-economic status or culture. A dance class is a unique place that brings people together for a common reason…to learn and feel good!

In a dance class you experience the music and movement of a different culture. This experience can inspire you to delve deeper to learn more about the music, the people, the language and perhaps instigate some travel to that country. We can’t think of something better…How about a trip to Rio anyone?

Dance has an outstanding positive effect on you both physically and psychological well-being! We can’t find a reason otherwise. 🙂
